What is Tortuga Tutoring?

Tortuga Tutoring offers beginner-level Spanish lessons for children of all ages.

Our lessons are designed to be gentle and practical, following a natural approach to language acquisition.

We believe language is best learned the same way we all learned our first—through listening and speaking!

Why the name “Tortuga”?

Tortuga means “turtle” in Spanish.

This is a nod to the founder’s last name Tortorella which, in Italian, means “turtle dove”.

Just like the turtle symbolizes patience and steady progress, we believe language learning should be a journey worth savoring. That’s why at Tortuga our motto is, “Spanish, slow and steady.”

What curriculum do you use?

Our core curriculum is See it and Say it Flip Flop Spanish. Additionally, we use a variety of living resources such as poems, stories, and songs.

With curriculum as a starting point, we supplement lessons with phonetic practice, grammar tips, and cultural insights drawn from years of experience.

Lessons are also adapted based on student interests, helping each learner stay curious.

When do Group Cohorts Meet?

Our next group cohort will run Fall 2025, with weekly lessons from September to November. Cohort meeting days and times will be determined based on interest.
